Well-the suspense is over -my friend from school Pradipto Banerjea has decisively won by an impressive margin of 497 votes.The total number of votes cast was 1895 -Pradipto received 1196 votes and the other contestant 699.Congratulations, Pradipto.
I must confess that voting in this election was a novel experience for me.Many of the members like me reached the foyer on foot and stood patiently in a long Q to vote.It was a sea of humanity participating in a battle royale.
In contrast, at the Bengal Club where I have had the privilege to serve as a President -the formal meeting takes as long as the vote of thanks.The entire meeting is over in less than 30 minutes.
The massive voting process in Calcutta Club was handled efficiently and results were known in less than 24 hours.
The members have chosen an individual who works as an executive in one of the finest companies still headquartered in Kolkata. They confirmed the adage that a busy person finds time for everything.
Many psephologists predicted a nail biting finish but from the first ballot box it became clear who would be the next President of the Club.
